  1. 1. It made citizens mistrust the government more than what they already did. It showed that the government not only lied about things happening in war, but they were lying about something as simple as an election of a possible new president.
    2. When other countries learned about the U.S. lying, it stripped us of our innocence. It made the country as a whole look like liers. Other countries more than likely had trust issues concerning the U.S. after this incident.

    The Watergate scandal showed how powerful the government was and what they were capable of doing. It also showed that although presidency is one of the highest positions in government, you cannot always trust authority.

    Although the nation was somewhat “stripped” at first, America is very resilient and came back stronger than before. Other countries, as well as U.S. citizens, might have been doubtful to trust our nation after such a malicious attack. In the end, the United States proved itself to be a trusted nation that could overcome anything.

I believe it affected us more after than before, only because it really made the american people think about who to trust in rather than trusting in a president who may “do them dirty”.

It truly showed, not necessarily in the best way, how powerful our government is.

    Initially, President Nixon’s misdeeds and downfalls did strip the nation of its innocence. It shocked the American people to say the least. Not only did the scandal make Richard Nixon’s reputation plummet, but it was as if Americans felt like this scandal was going to affect presidents in the future. However, as time passed, the nation left the past in the past. In the end, Watergate seemed to make America stronger. People realized the mistakes made, and were bound and determined to make sure things like it never happened again. Eventually, the Watergate scandal brought out the thing people around the world know America for, its pride and perseverance. America was heading on its way to a more prosperous future, leaving Watergate and Nixon behind.
